What is a letter of experience? Why do I need one?

Currently, most drivers do not collect a letter of experience issued by an insurance company unless they need one to get added to a new policy. Some employers are not comfortable giving their drivers a letter of experience as they believe that the driver is going to use it to apply for a new job with a competitor. As such, employers tend not to offer letters of experience to their drivers unless requested.

Letter to the Editor: Proud of Trucking’s stance on COVID shots

I’m proud of our trucking stance on this issue. One thing that is laughable is the whining about the officer over his pension repayments. I’ve been in trucking for 20+ years and still have yet to receive a single pension from the industry, so Road Warrior News commenting on issue is laughable in a sad laughing way, to most truckers……most of us will NEVER retire and have never had the luxuries of a pension in our lives due to sickening employers who would rather not pay that and still profiteer in the industry.

COVID-19 vaccines and religious freedom

In these two awards, the Arbitrators applied a relatively low threshold for establishing that objections to taking a COVID-19 vaccine were covered by religion and creed protections. However, as noted above, these findings are only the first part of the analysis. Employers are only required to accommodate religious beliefs if doing so does not constitute undue hardship, and a key factor which may create undue hardship is health and safety risk. COVID-19 vaccine requirements are measures to increase workplace health and safety. These two awards did not have to consider how accommodating these religious beliefs could be reconciled with health and safety concerns, and that will likely be the key issue for employers who are faced with these claims in their own workplaces.

CUPW files unfair labour practice complaint against Uber

On Thursday, Sept. 15, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), filed an unfair labour practices complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board against Uber for violating the Labour Relations Act. Earlier this year, Uber and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) struck a deal that gave UFCW the right to represent Uber drivers and couriers. This agreement was done in secret without worker input. Uber even used its app and email list to promote the agreement to drivers and couriers.
