‘Vision Zero’ — can we ever achieve a world without road fatalities?

It seems that Vision Zero — as with many things — could be pulling innovators towards complex ideas that attempt to achieve the end goal in one key step. While big ideas have great value, we are all sometimes guilty of overlooking the more prosaic aspects of a problem — and a more simple idea may be the one to push us much closer to Vision Zero.

Do you really need that delivery TODAY? Consumerism, friction and Trucking

Missed birthdays, anniversaries special occasions, kids growing up too fast, missed Doctor’s appointments, missed community and church involvement. 

Furthermore: Driving in weather no one in which their right mind would drive. Traffic jams in major cities that go on for hours. Shippers and Receivers who are frantic for a pickup or delivery yet don’t want to see you when you arrive. Customers who will not hesitate to levy a late fine on you if they can get away with it.

Will Net-Zero kill the on-demand Accessible dream?

I am trying hard to find balance in my mind between two goals set by Toronto: on-demand Accessible Taxi service for members of the disabled community, and Net-Zero emissions.

Unfortunately, it seems that as Toronto hopes to move forward toward its goal of Net-Zero emissions, the goal of on-demand Accessible Taxi service is demonstrably, measurably being pushed in reverse.

Only 5 days left to submit names for EV Working Group in Toronto – Sunday, October 2nd deadline

On September 13th, the City of Toronto issued the press release below. October 2nd is the deadline for interested parties to submit their names for consideration to be on the Electric Vehicles Working Group.

Applications open for the Vehicle-for-Hire Net Zero Working Group

The City of Toronto is inviting members from across Toronto’s vehicle-for-hire industry and relevant stakeholders to join the Vehicle-for-Hire Net Zero Working Group. Led by a third-party facilitator, the working group will review possible solutions to guide and support the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions produced by the vehicle-for-hire industry to net zero by 2030.

Hard-to-get Letters of Employment are a headache for drivers, Owner-Operators: insurance panel

“When we sit down with a Trucker trying to arrange or renew insurance, the first thing we have to do is ask for the LOE…you might be tempted toask, ‘Do they even exist?’” asked Scott Cober of BFL Canada. His rhetorical question got a big laugh from the room, but Derrick MacDonald of Driver Verified responded by confirming the challenge drivers face getting the letters, and also by proposing a solution.

“Let’s face it, if your employer fired you on Friday, asking him to provide you with an LOE on Monday is a non-starter,” MacDonald pointed out. “You are the lowest priority on his list.”
