CALGARY, ALBERTA: The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is pleased to announce that on Thursday, April 13, 2023, lawyers for the Honourable Brian Peckford, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, and others, filed their written arguments in support of their appeal of the October 20, 2022 decision of the Federal Court that found their case was “moot”.
The Federal Court notified the parties that the constitutional challenges against the federal government’s travel mandate during the Covid-19 pandemic were struck for being “moot,” just eleven days prior to the start of the constitutional hearing, which had been scheduled for October 31, 2022.

Upgrades to the MELT curriculum, a mentorship program for new graduates, and counterfeit Trucking credentials were all on the agenda TTSAO’s April meeting with Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney.
Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario (TTSAO) President Phil Fletcher says the agenda was packed but the discussions went well at the April 19th meeting.
“Most importantly, we discussed the concept of adding a ‘post-graduation’ mentorship program for new drivers,” Fletcher says. “We would need to co-ordinate it with the carriers hiring new graduates, and it can be designed specifically to target some of the real problems we are seeing with new drivers in Northern Ontario in winter.”

Read MoreThe deadline for individuals to file their tax returns with Revenue Canada is Monday, May 1st, because since April 30 is a Sunday. A tax return is considered on time if the CRA receives it, or if it is postmarked, on or before the next business day after April 30 which in 2023 is May 1st.
The current labour action by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) does not change the deadline for filing tax returns. All paper returns and mail sent to the CRA will be stockpiled for future processing.

Last month, I told you about a Saskatoon couple I called Ted and Sally. He’s been a trucker for 40 years, and she’s been a trucker’s wife for nearly as long. They joined the Freedom Convoy in late January 2022 and, from day one, she streamed Facebook Live videos from the cab of their truck.
These videos allowed friends and family to ride along, to witness in real time the incredible enthusiasm with which ordinary Canadians responded to the Convoy. Today, they are an important, permanent record of what took place.

On April 21st, 2023, the announcement that Volkswagen will build its first Canadian plant in St. Thomas was made official.
Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were joined by Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, and the federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, to announce the deal for St. Thomas, Ontario, and Canada’s entire electric vehicle supply chain.

Saskatoon – The National Citizens Inquiry continues in Saskatoon on Friday, April 21, the second of three days of hearings. This is the fourth stop after Truro, Toronto and Winnipeg where Canadians such as doctors, morticians, lawyers, journalists and other individuals have been testifying about the negative effects of the government measures in response to COVID-19.
In Saskatoon the Inquiry is hearing from people affected by mask mandates, vaccine mandates and business closures.
