Who are Ted & Sally? The reason for the fake names

by Donna Laframboise

Last month, I told you about a Saskatoon couple I called Ted and Sally. He’s been a trucker for 40 years, and she’s been a trucker’s wife for nearly as long. They joined the Freedom Convoy in late January 2022 and, from day one, she streamed Facebook Live videos from the cab of their truck.

These videos allowed friends and family to ride along, to witness in real time the incredible enthusiasm with which ordinary Canadians responded to the Convoy. Today, they are an important, permanent record of what took place.

When I first located these videos on Facebook, Ted and Sally were out of the country. I didn’t know if there were backup copies, and was concerned the videos might disappear if I called attention to them. Facebook deletes entire accounts. YouTube deletes entire channels stretching back 16 years. When this happens, there’s no recourse. The content you’ve created – your intellectual property – vanishes. Poof. As if it never existed.

In the short term, therefore, I gave these good people pseudonyms. Since then, “Ted and Sally” have returned home. The videos have been downloaded and safely backed up. Tomorrow, therefore, is the big reveal. It will be my pleasure to tell you the real names of these two Freedom Convoy heroes.

Below is the complete list of my posts that have relied on Sally’s videos:
