Metro Taxi, Ottawa argue how $200M in payments should be structured

Marc Andre Way of Metro Taxi will provide testimony in court beginning on Monday, March 30 in the Metro Taxi vs City of Ottawa case.

Way told Taxi News he could be on the stand for as few as one day or as many as four.

This scheduled proceeding is the next step in a process that began in 2016 when Metro Taxi first filed its complaint that Ottawa’s lack of action in enforcing its by-laws on Uber when it arrived cost legal Taxi plate owners millions of dollars in lost revenues.

On May 13, 2024, Ontario Superior Court Justice Marc Smith issued his decision that “Uber was a bandit taxi company” and that Ottawa was “negligent” in not enforcing its own by-laws.

On April 4, 2025, the trial Metro Taxi et al vs. City of Ottawa resumed for the hearing of oral submissions on the aggregate damages issue. The matter was adjourned because the Court was of the view that expert evidence was required to determine this issue. The trial was then scheduled to resume during the week of March 30, 2026.
