Ontario ignores requests to update safety
None of the safety discussions or elements suggested by the Taxi industry and supported by police have been included in Regulation 136/26, which became effective on May 19th.
The regulations were created to allow the province to permit platform-based services like Uber and Lyft to work in rural and Northern Ontario.
| Industry request | Ontario regulation 136/26 |
| Working group/meeting to discuss potential of emerging technologies could be used to improve safety and reduce crime | No working group or meeting was organized. |
| One set of rules to regulate all ground transportation and Vehicles for Hire including Taxi, rideshare, and limo | New regs impact rideshare but not Taxi or Limo |
| In-car security camera for every Vehicle for Hire | No cameras required |
