When, not if, Waymo commences operations
To the Editor,
RE: It’s always sunny in autonomous news
When, not if, Waymo commences operations in T.O., the VFH will be utterly transformed. (Look for a possible merger or takeover with Uber at some point. Uber, with a 2024 global client base of 171 million would love nothing more than to shed its drivers.) Robot taxis will instantly appeal to female passengers, many of whom fearful of taking Uber. How well I recall elevator operators, especially at Eaton’s and Simpson’s, who would take us to the respective toy departments as kids. Folks adjusted to self-serve elevators, and, for certain, they will adjust to robot taxis. In the years to come these vehicles will be second nature.
With robot taxis, traditional cabs, as well as Uber-driven vehicles, will be rendered completely obsolete.
In retrospect, I am grateful for the many years spent behind the wheel, plying my trade as a cabbie, long before Uber reared its ugly head, when there was money to be made.
