Petition to end the carnage on Highway 11/17 gets more than 10,000 signatures

“Highway 11/17 kills people,” says Richard Deschamps. “We need to come together and tell this Ontario government enough is enough.  

“Enough with the deaths enough with these inexperienced, dangerous and unqualified drivers not respecting basic rules of our roads, enough with the carnage, enough with our safety being put in jeopardy every single time we use Highway 11/17, enough with the government not taking these issues seriously,” writes Richard Deschamps, who has launched a petition on change.org to pressure the Ontario government into taking action. “They need to take responsibility for these deadly actions.

Following Whitby autonomous crash, Toronto also suspends its shuttle pilot

Following the December 16 accident it which it hit a tree, Whitby’s autonomous shuttle service “has been suspended until a full investigation has been completed,” says Durham Region Transit in a statement.

Additionally, the city of Toronto has taken its pilot shuttle out of service pending the results of the investigation: “The West Rouge Automated Shuttle Trial has been put on hold due to an incident in Whitby involving a similar service and due to current public health guidance regarding COVID-19,” reads the banner notice displayed on Toronto’s website.

Authorized Towing Companies in each MTO/GTA Restricted Tow Zone Pilot

Ontario launched its Restricted Tow Zone Pilot on December 13th, 2021, in an effort to reduce shady practices by towing company operators.

Restricted towing zones are defined sections of provincial highways in which only authorized towing companies can remove vehicles that require a tow. This means no other towing company can solicit towing of vehicles within a restricted towing zone.

In a restricted towing zone, you must use an authorized towing company. Authorized towing companies under contract for each restricted towing zone as listed on the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) website are:

Whitby’s “self-driving” shuttle suspended following incident in which vehicle jumps curb, hits tree

December 18th update: Durham Region Transit has suspended operation of its “self-driving” shuttle project following an incident on December 16th. Photos published by Durham Radio News showed the shuttle had jumped a curb and hit a tree.
