Maybe Uber will be able to accomplish in Trucking what it’s failed to do in Taxi: turn a profit while drivers earn a fair living

Reading coverage of the Transplace purchase and other recent Uber-themed articles in logistics media, you could almost get the impression that Uber is a profitable, efficient company generously looking to share its success with outdated trucking and logistics industries that have somehow struggled along without its help for a century.

In fact, none of the cold, hard data supports this idea.

20/30 vision or better still required under new “vision waiver”

Details of the Ontario government’s new vision waiver program are now available online.

A new regulation under the Highway Traffic Act for commercial drivers who have reduced vision will allow commercial drivers to demonstrate their ability to compensate for their vision loss and if successful, maintain their mobility and livelihood. Commercial drivers with reduced vision allowed to demonstrate ability in new Ontario testing program

The Ontario government is introducing a vision waiver program for commercial drivers who have reduced vision.

A new regulation under the Highway Traffic Act will allow for the implementation of a commercial vision waiver program which would establish an individualized assessment program for Class A, C, D and F drivers. This program will allow commercial drivers with reduced vision to demonstrate their ability to compensate for their vision loss and if successful, maintain their mobility and livelihood. The new regulation is expected to come into effect in early July, 2021.

Ontario wants your opinion on how to improve transportation in the Greater Golden Horseshoe

Proposed ELOG amendments for carriers operating ONLY in Ontario – comment online until July 12

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has announced that it proposes to amend Ontario’s Hours of Service Regulation 555/06 under the Highway Traffic Act (ON) to implement a mandatory requirement for motor carriers who only operate in Ontario to start using electronic logging devices (ELD). The implementation of this new mandate would be no sooner than June 12, 2022. The MTO previously conducted a survey on the issue in December 2020, which found that the majority of carriers believed that there are benefits to using ELDs.
