Confusion, dismay reign over GTAA changes
Original effective date of January 1, 2024 appears to be delayed
The Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) has provoked confusion and dismay over proposed changes to the Conditions of Permit for ground transportation vehicles. The changes, originally set to take effect on January 1, 2024, have not been adequately presented or discussed with airport stakeholders according to groups including Limousine and Taxi drivers.
Taxi News has received numerous emails and phone calls complaining about the process and expressing concern that decisions are being made without drivers’ input.
Organizers say they are still waiting for the updated version of the Modernized Conditions of Permit and are alarmed by the tone expressed by the GTAA in its recent letter: “Since we have not received the updated version of Modernized Conditions of Permit from GTAA, we are not sure if our concerns have been considered by GTAA.”
Taxi News contacted contacted Fabrice de Dongo, Associate Director, Media Relations for the GTAA on December 12, and requested updated and accurate background documents such as a summary of the proposed changes, the stakeholder consultation plan, and the new projected date for the changes to take effect at Pearson.
De Dongo’s reply was, “Thanks for your query. We don’t publicly discuss our discussions with commercial partners, but it’s important to note that we are actively working with the taxi and limo industry on updates to their operating conditions in a collaborative way, considering all feedback and transparently sharing updates and timelines.”
