“Two professional drivers” involved in collision which kills 15 people

A devastating accident in Manitoba killed 15 people and injured 10 on June 15th.

As detailed by RCMP in a press conference late in the day, a transport truck and a bus carrying senior citizens on a day trip collided at the intersection of Highway #5 and the TransCanada Highway near Carbarry, east of Brandon.

Road Warrior News spoke with two Truck drivers who drive that stretch regularly. One noted it is “out in the middle of nowhere,” with clear sightlines in all directions.

“Driving south on Highway #5, you would stop first for the westbound lanes of the TransCanada, then proceed just about one trucks’ length further to cross the eastbound lanes and yield to any TransCanada traffic before you proceed,” Travis MacDougall of Truckers for Safer Highways noted. “The TransCanada has the right of way, of course.”

“These were two professional drivers involved in a serious collision, a transport driver and a bus driver,” MacDougall noted sadly. “Both tested and licensed to drive for a living. Like everyone else, we are waiting for the results of the investigation and won’t comment before then; but the fact that this collision involved two professional drivers troubles me most.”
