Extending life of Accessible Taxis on today’s agenda at Licensing Committee

Licensing and Standards staff have recommended a temporary 3-year extension on the life of customized Accessible vans in a report which will be considered today as part of the General Government and Licensing Committee meeting. The GGL Committee meeting is scheduled to start at 9:30am; Taxi News will post the video live stream when it becomes available.

This item, #GL32.29, is one of the final items on the agenda.

On the eve of the convoy’s arrival in Ottawa, the streets felt more like a party than a protest. Honks, diesel exhaust, and excitement filled the air. Drivers rounded city blocks blaring their horns, blasting music, and shouting “Freedom!” as they passed cheering gaggles on the sidewalks. The early arrivals—truckers who showed up on their own rather than in the several convoys set to descend on Canada’s capital— staked positions on Wellington St. and its immediate side streets. Many of them wouldn’t leave those spots for three weeks. The scene indoors was just as vibrant. People who only knew each other from Facebook and Telegram groups met for the first time and embraced. Hotels that had sat empty for much of the previous two years filled up.

“Dear Canadian friends and fellow campaigners!

Today is the 1st of July – Canada Day – the national holiday of your beautiful country.

I was very honored when I received an invitation from representatives of your courageous and steadfast freedom movement – the Canadian Freedom Truckers – to this year’s Canada Day to join you all in the celebrations today in Ottawa.

But unfortunately, I was not allowed to enter Canada because my status as a consistent unvaccinated person prevents this.

A year older – are we any wiser?

The propagandists: these are what the average Canadian would call “the media.” Make no mistake, they are all in on the growth of the governmental beast; they directly benefit from it. Consider this: you work, you pay taxes, you pay taxes, you pay taxes. Those hard-earned monies are willfully given to an organization bent on its own survival. In turn, the tax collector distributes your money to propagandists drafting narratives and campaigns designed to bewilder and emotionally charge the taxpayer into believing that both the beast of government and the propagandists are there for your benefit. This scheme is to motivate you to give them more of your hard-earned labour, your emotions, your children, your undivided attention and defense of the overlords. Failure to worship at this altar will eventually be met with scorn and retribution.
