Committee accepts staff recommendation to extend Accessible Taxi age to 10 years

General Government and Licensing Committee voted just after 10:30am July 4th to accept the staff recommendation to extend the allowable age of Accessible Taxis to 10 years from 7 years.

Speakers Behrouz Kamseh of All Taxi Owners and Operators Ltd. and Peter’s Taxi owner Peter Mandronis appeared before Committee to speak in support of the age extension.

There was no discussion of making the extension permanent.

The staff recommendation is as follows:

The Executive Director, Municipal Licensing and Standards recommends that:

  1. City Council amend Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 546, Licensing of Vehicles-forHire, to permit a vehicle used as an accessible taxicab to be up to ten model years old
    and stipulating that this provision is in effect until December 31, 2025 and shall be
    repealed on January 1, 2026.
