Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, and 16 American governors have signed a letter to President Joe Biden requesting that the United States drop the cross-border vaccine mandate.

Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford is not among the signatories.

Brian Peckford, the last living signatory of the Canadian Constitution and Charter of Rights and Freedoms, poured some cold water on Justin Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergency Measures Act on February 14^th.

“This is completely, absolutely unnecessary,” Peckford said shortly before Trudeau announced his intentions to invoke the Act at a press conference with several of his Cabinet Ministers. No legal text of the order was tabled in Parliament, or is yet available at the time of this posting.

Ontario is moving up its timetable to ease COVID measures, with the next phase of measures being eased on February 17, 2022.

“Given how well Ontario has done in the Omicron wave we are able to fast track our reopening plan,” said Premier Doug Ford at a press conference held February 14^th. Changes include eliminating the requirement for Ontarians to carry a Vaccine Passport to access specific locations such as restaurants and other businesses, although these businesses will have the option to require passports if they so choose.

Masking requirements remain unchanged.

Despite anything in the Highway Traffic Act, where the Registrar or Deputy Registrar
believes on reasonable grounds that,
(a) the holder of a driver’s licence, motor vehicle permit or CVOR certificate has
contravened section 2 or 3 or has failed to comply with subsection 4 (2) or 5 (3); or
(b) the holder of a CVOR certificate was the operator of a motor vehicle that was used in
or during a contravention of section 2 or 3,
the Registrar or Deputy Registrar may, by order, suspend or cancel the driver’s licence, plate
portion of the permit or CVOR certificate.

In downtown Ottawa, over 4,000 demonstrators were present throughout the day. Safety concerns – arising from aggressive, illegal behaviour by many demonstrators – limited police enforcement capabilities.

The fact that Quebec Liberal MPs Joel Lightbound and Yves Robillard have publicly denounced Justin Trudeau for trying to “divide and stigmatize” fellow Canadians is having a lightening rod effect on Liberals who disagree with Trudeau’s approach.

A Toronto Area Liberal Member of Parliament told RWN that he disagrees completely with Prime Minster Trudeau’s approach to dealing with the Freedom Convoy.
