“Snake in a Cab” as Emotional Support Python accidentally left in Beck Taxi

A Beck Taxi driver picked up an unexpected and unwanted passenger on December 28th: a baby yellow python.

The python was travelling in the purse of its owner and evidently slithered out somewhere along the route. When the young woman arrived home and realized her pet was missing, she called Beck in a panic and asked if the driver could check his vehicle to see if the python was there.

Petition to end the carnage on Highway 11/17 gets more than 10,000 signatures

“Highway 11/17 kills people,” says Richard Deschamps. “We need to come together and tell this Ontario government enough is enough.

Following Whitby autonomous crash, Toronto also suspends its shuttle pilot

Following the December 16 accident it which it hit a tree, Whitby’s autonomous shuttle service “has been suspended until a full investigation has been completed,” says Durham Region Transit in a statement.

Additionally, the city of Toronto has taken its pilot shuttle out of service pending the results of the investigation: “The West Rouge Automated Shuttle Trial has been put on hold due to an incident in Whitby involving a similar service and due to current public health guidance regarding COVID-19,” reads the banner notice displayed on Toronto’s website.

However, as of July 1st 2021, Uber Canada will be located in Canada. Up until now, its head offices have been located in the Netherlands, a situation which has allowed it to avoid paying many of the same taxes competing Canadian business are required by law to pay. Uber’s “Double Dutch” tax avoidance strategy has been well investigated in other articles which are well worth reading. Less well investigated is what we might call Uber’s “Lawsuit Avoidance Strategy,” which up until now could be summarized as: “Hide in the Netherlands and make anyone who wants to sue you, for any reason large or small, fly to Europe and find you in order to get their day at the Hague.”

Whitby’s “self-driving” shuttle suspended following incident in which vehicle jumps curb, hits tree

December 18th update: Durham Region Transit has suspended operation of its “self-driving” shuttle project following an incident on December 16th. Photos published by Durham Radio News showed the shuttle had jumped a curb and hit a tree.
