Why is the publisher of Taxi News writing about Fascism?

If Canada is no longer a Capitalistic Democracy, what is it?

For more than a decade, I have watched in shock and horror as hard-working, law-abiding Taxi operators have been “beaten with a stick” (see the illustration above!) by harsh events and realities which should NEVER exist in a Democracy. I no longer believe Canada functions as a Democracy. These columns are dedicated to the Taxi operators, drivers and business owners who realized something was radically wrong when Uber arrived in 2012 and was allowed to re-write our laws to its corporate benefit.

Now, as it is revealed that our Prime Minister has 103 declared conflicts of interest, perhaps the rest of Canada is beginning to wake up to these realities.

Taxi operators have experienced almost unbearable frustrations, many wondering why their work ethic, financial investment, and personal commitment to safe and affordable ground transportation is no longer succeeding. It’s no longer succeeding because they launched their businesses in a Capitalistic Democracy; but they no longer live in a Capitalistic Democracy.

If Canada is no longer the Capitalistic Democracy in which so many hard-working keeners hoped to build a business, what is it?

Benito Mussolini himself said “Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.”

When corporations are no longer regulated by government but instead are unabashedly part of government, it’s open season on citizens.  In rideshare, passenger safety and consumer protection have gone out the window as algorithmic pricing robs both riders and drivers. In housing, Canada wants government to mass-produce pre-fabricated homes to be placed on land owned by the government – so that young people will pay rent forever, and never own their own property. Ever.

My theory that elements of Fascism began creeping into Canada’s government years ago is just that: a theory. I would love to hear other theories. I welcome readers’ comments and arguments and if you send them to taxinews@rogers.com I’ll publish those too.

What do you think is happening in Canada? And, what should business people be doing to survive in this environment?
