Will Net-Zero kill the on-demand Accessible dream?

I am trying hard to find balance in my mind between two goals set by Toronto: on-demand Accessible Taxi service for members of the disabled community, and Net-Zero emissions.

Unfortunately, it seems that as Toronto hopes to move forward toward its goal of Net-Zero emissions, the goal of on-demand Accessible Taxi service is demonstrably, measurably being pushed in reverse.

Hard-to-get Letters of Employment are a headache for drivers, Owner-Operators: insurance panel

“When we sit down with a Trucker trying to arrange or renew insurance, the first thing we have to do is ask for the LOE…you might be tempted toask, ‘Do they even exist?’” asked Scott Cober of BFL Canada. COVID-19 vaccines and religious freedom

In these two awards, the Arbitrators applied a relatively low threshold for establishing that objections to taking a COVID-19 vaccine were covered by religion and creed protections. However, as noted above, these findings are only the first part of the analysis. Employers are only required to accommodate religious beliefs if doing so does not constitute undue hardship, and a key factor which may create undue hardship is health and safety risk. COVID-19 vaccine requirements are measures to increase workplace health and safety. These two awards did not have to consider how accommodating these religious beliefs could be reconciled with health and safety concerns, and that will likely be the key issue for employers who are faced with these claims in their own workplaces.

CUPW files unfair labour practice complaint against Uber

On Thursday, Sept. 15, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), filed an unfair labour practices complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board against Uber for violating the Labour Relations Act. Earlier this year, Uber and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) struck a deal that gave UFCW the right to represent Uber drivers and couriers. This agreement was done in secret without worker input. Uber even used its app and email list to promote the agreement to drivers and couriers.
