407 now sharing Personal Information
“Will Tim Horton’s know which exit I’m taking so they can message me their specials?”
407 ETR updated its Privacy Notice on June 30, and some Taxi News readers are concerned about implications of the changes.
“It’s curious that they have ‘removed references to the Province of Ontario’s Highway 407,” noted one man who asked that his name not be shared.
“But what’s more concerning is the section on data sharing. 407 will now share my data with marketing agencies and social media marketers? Does that mean Tim Horton’s will know when I get off at an exit so they can start sending me messages about what’s on special?”
The full text of the notice can be read here.
The section on data sharing with third parties reads;
| “Sharing |
| As required to carry out marketing and promotions, we may disclose Personal Information to third-party service providers such as marketing and communications agencies, digital or social media marketing and analytics vendors, communications service providers, and consulting firms.” The June 30 notice lists key changes to the existing privacy notice in these 4 points: Privacy Notice updates include: -Removing references to the Province of Ontario’s Highway 407 -Referencing My Account as an example of services you may sign up to (Section 3) -Adding ‘aggregated data’ (organized, high-level data) to Data Types collected and used -Including data, analytics, and marketing vendors as potential sources of Personal Information The 407 Privacy Notice notes that “You can opt out of the use of your Personal Information for marketing purposes by contacting us using the information in Section 10 (Accountable to you). You can also unsubscribe from emails or other messages from 407 ETR. If you have the 407 ETR mobile app, you can also adjust your settings there.” |
