Toronto City Council dispatched two Taxi industry items in only a few minutes late last night. Motions to extend the allowable age of Accessible Taxis to ten years and to study a one-driver, one-license approach for Private Transportation Company drivers moved by Councillor Alejandra Bravo passed quickly at the meetings’ end.

The motion to amend Executive Committee’s recommendation was amended by Councillor Alejandra Bravo to read:

“1. City Council request the Executive Director, Municipal Licensing and Standards, to report with recommendations required to implement a one-driver, one-license approach for the licensing of Private Transportation Company drivers as part of the report back on the referral of Item 2024.EX19.4.

2. City Council amend Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 546, Licensing of Vehicles-for-Hire, to permit a vehicle registered with Municipal Licensing and Standards for use as a taxicab or limousine as of December 31, 2024, to be up to ten model years old until December 31, 2028.”

The Committee recommendation that a taxicab or sedan limousine required to be replaced by March 31, 2025 be allowed to continue to be used as a Taxi until August 29, 2025 also passed.
