Taxi vehicle age extension: confusion reigns

The extremely last-minute Toronto Council motion to extend the age of all vehicles allowed to be used as Taxi has resulted in abject confusion in the industry.

Taxi operators who purchased brand new vehicles before the March 31st deadline are furious that malingerers who waited until the last minute were given a two-year reprieve on March 28th.

Industry leaders who requested only that the City extend the age of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles, but not that the age of non-WAVs be extended, are uncertain as to why all vehicles were granted an extension.

City staff at 850 Coxwell were reportedly telling operators renewing on March 31st that the 2014 model year is included, while the motion passed at Council March 28th appears to capture only 2017 and forward.

Taxi News is seeking clarification on this emerging story.
