TTC strike could impact VHF consultation schedule

“We will be back in touch with updates”

Update 6am June 7: Toronto staff have confirmed that the consultations will proceed as scheduled

Toronto’s Vehicle for Hire stakeholder consultations are scheduled to begin in the middle of a possible Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) strike.

Taxi firms are working full tilt in preparation for a possible TTC strike, which could begin as soon as 12:01am June 7th. Industry members do not appear to be focussing on their submissions to the VHF consultation, but rather on ensuring every available car and driver is available to Toronto residents who may need transportation next week.

“Sorry, we are slammed getting ready for the strike,” Beck Taxi’s Kristine Hubbard said in response to questions on a VFH submission.

While no discussion of changing the consultation dates has yet been held, a strike may necessitate one.

“That’s a good question, and one we have not discussed yet,” Lindsay Toth of Gladki Planning Associates told Taxi News on June 6th. Gladki is the consulting firm retained by Toronto to facilitate stakeholder meetings.

“We should know soon if the strike is going to happen, and if it does, we will be back in touch with updates.”

Announced dates for the VFH consultation are June 12th to 25th. The TTC workers union has set a strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. Friday June 7th.
