Toronto is considering making licensing of Vehicle for Hire (VFH) drivers contingent on COVID-19 vaccination status.

An alert to possible changes to COVID-19 requirements for Taxi and Rideshare drivers was shared by email on February 3rd, 2022.

The text of the email reads:

“Hello,

As directed by City Council, the City is reviewing COVID-19 vaccination policies in the vehicle-for-hire industry, and considering making the licensing of drivers contingent on COVID-19 vaccination status. Vaccination is part of a range of measures and actions that can help prevent and limit the spread of COVID-19.

Full vaccination has been shown to be effective in reducing severe consequences linked to COVID-19. Toronto Public Health strongly recommends that all Toronto businesses institute a COVID-19 vaccination policy.

Toronto Public Health has issued general guidelines for the vehicle-for-hire industry, and other businesses to reduce the spread of COVID-19, which includes the requirements operators must comply with under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act.

More information on the upcoming report is available on the Vehicle-for-Hire Bylaw Updates website.

Thank you,

Municipal Licensing and Standards”
