Just say “no” to lying, lawbreaking, counterfeiting
Canadians need to insist upon a Rule of Law that involves both Rules, and Laws
In the video clip above, Mark Carney signs an important-looking document which viewers are supposed to believe is an Executive Order, like the kind Donald Trump signs in America. Except that, in Canada we do not have “Executive Orders” which are given the force of law with the leader’s signature. We have Orders in Council, which are signed by the Governor General.
The document Carney signed here is completely fake: the format is fake; the words of the text are invented; and his signing it means nothing.
What is the difference between Carney signing this fake “Executive Order-in-Council,” and a fake Trucking school creating counterfeit credentials and presenting them to an under-educated Truck driver?
I have been following one court case involving operators of a fake Trucking school for three long years now. The men charged with operating the schools need to have Punjabi interpreters in court with them, so they can understand what’s going on and how the Law works in Canada.
Is it a big stretch to wonder: if immigrants see that it is acceptable for Mark Carney to sign a fake government document proclaiming a bogus law, do they also think it’s OK for them to make up their own Trucking school curriculum and print graduation certificates off of their laser printer?
I think we can all agree that counterfeit Truck driving credentials are a real problem, where road safety and consumer protection are concerned. That’s why the fake Trucking school operators have been charged in connection with the production and the use of false documents.
Mark Carney has not been charged with the production and use of false documents; he has not been charged with anything. I fear that so long as Canadians are OK with Mark Carney signing a counterfeit document and presenting it to Cabinet members and media, we can be assured such behaviour will trickle down and become entrenched.
Somewhere, somehow, Canadians have lost their way. In recent years, we began to accept lying and law breaking as a normal part of business and personal operations. We allowed ourselves to be spun and bamboozled first by the likes of Napster and then Uber and AirBnB, businesses predicated on the explicit premise of breaking the law to be competitive. We accepted the lawbreaking because we like services that are free or cheap; only now we are discovering that “cheap” comes at a very high cost.
We need to get back to having a Rule of Law that involves both Rules, and Laws, whatever the price.
If ever there was a time to protest lying at the highest level of our society in order to protect the truth at all levels, this is it.
Transcript of Mark Carney’s remarks on March 14, 2025:
“So, based on the discussion we’ve had, and consistent with the promise that I made and others supported during the leadership campaign, we will be eliminating the Canada fuel charge, the consumer fuel charge, immediately, immediately, and we will be ensuring that those Canadians who have received rebates will continue to receive a rebate in the next quarter.
“The next payment is before the end of April. This will make a difference to hard pressed Canadians, but it is part of a much bigger set of measures that this government is taking to ensure that we fight against climate change, that our companies are competitive, and the country moves forward.
“So it’s my honor, on behalf of my colleagues, to sign this bill.”
