Five tow truck operators charged with theft of encrypted police radios

Five tow truck operators have been charged with offences under the Criminal Code related to the theft of encrypted police radios, which were allegedly used to learn about traffic collisions before other tow truck drivers.
According to a letter sent to Road Warrior News by lawyer Matthew Cornett containing City Solicitor’s Notice of Motion, Municipal Licensing and Standards requested police records related to the Criminal Charges from Toronto police, but these requests have been denied on the basis that disclosing the records could put the ongoing prosecutions in jeopardy.
Documents related to these charges will be filed with the Toronto Licensing Tribunal hearings scheduled for Thursday, October 14, 2021; MLS will be seeking an Order from the Tribunal that the hearings of these matters proceed in camera (closed to the public), that certain documents be kept sealed and separate from the public records, and that the Tribunal’s decision not refer to the specific information contained in these documents.
