Change for the better

The seasons change. They always will. That’s one thing that is a certainty. The rest…well that’s up for debate.

We all change. We may say that we’re still the same. Maybe it takes others to point it out to us that it is so.

Same job, same habits same tastes. But maybe our outlook has changed. Maybe our morals and ethics have slowly evolved into something else. Something that makes us more or less able to tolerate something or someone.

Often, we don’t see the changes in ourselves until we experience something that brings them to the forefront. An argument, a critical decision or being forced in a corner with no way out but to choose a side or direction.

Once we held onto this belief or that. Once we stood for this or that. But change comes. It comes like the slow change in the colours of the leaves on trees. The increase in the frequency of wind. Blowing first from the West, then gradually blowing more frequently from the North.

It brings change. Depending on your stance in the world, what you choose to think is right, just, fair. Change will come regardless.

All we can do is hope that when we realize that we have indeed changed, we have changed for the better. We’ve changed for the right reasons. Even if it means we must stand alone and not with the crowd of public opinion or politically correct.

The leaves will turn colour, fall from the trees. The wind will blow longer and colder. And we will question the direction of our faith, or leaders, or country and ourselves and our values.

In that moment when you realize you have changed. When you are not the same as you used to be, may you see that you have changed not only for the better of yourself, but for the better of others.
