Hard-to-get Letters of Employment are a headache for drivers, Owner-Operators: insurance panel

“When we sit down with a Trucker trying to arrange or renew insurance, the first thing we have to do is ask for the LOE…you might be tempted toask, ‘Do they even exist?’” asked Scott Cober of BFL Canada. His rhetorical question got a big laugh from the room, but Derrick MacDonald of Driver Verified responded by confirming the challenge drivers face getting the letters, and also by proposing a solution.

“Let’s face it, if your employer fired you on Friday, asking him to provide you with an LOE on Monday is a non-starter,” MacDonald pointed out. “You are the lowest priority on his list.”

What is a letter of experience? Why do I need one?

Currently, most drivers do not collect a letter of experience issued by an insurance company unless they need one to get added to a new policy. Some employers are not comfortable giving their drivers a letter of experience as they believe that the driver is going to use it to apply for a new job with a competitor. As such, employers tend not to offer letters of experience to their drivers unless requested.

Letter to the Editor: Proud of Trucking’s stance on COVID shots

I’m proud of our trucking stance on this issue. One thing that is laughable is the whining about the officer over his pension repayments. I’ve been in trucking for 20+ years and still have yet to receive a single pension from the industry, so Road Warrior News commenting on issue is laughable in a sad laughing way, to most truckers……most of us will NEVER retire and have never had the luxuries of a pension in our lives due to sickening employers who would rather not pay that and still profiteer in the industry.

COVID-19 vaccines and religious freedom

In these two awards, the Arbitrators applied a relatively low threshold for establishing that objections to taking a COVID-19 vaccine were covered by religion and creed protections. However, as noted above, these findings are only the first part of the analysis. Employers are only required to accommodate religious beliefs if doing so does not constitute undue hardship, and a key factor which may create undue hardship is health and safety risk. COVID-19 vaccine requirements are measures to increase workplace health and safety. These two awards did not have to consider how accommodating these religious beliefs could be reconciled with health and safety concerns, and that will likely be the key issue for employers who are faced with these claims in their own workplaces.

Pierre Poilievre is Conservative Leader today because the Truckers’ Convoy protested in January

Canada had no Official Opposition to Justin Trudeau’s tyrannical tantrums during 2021 and 2022: Jagmeet Singh was conveniently bought off, and Erin O’Toole completely abdicated his responsibility to oppose. The Truckers stepped up and paid their own money to oppose Trudeau, while Jagmeet Singh and Erin O’Toole cheerfully cashed the paycheques they received to oppose while opposing nothing.

The Truckers’ Convoy had nothing to do with the business of Trucking: it was all about opposing tyranny. At that, it has chalked up several important victories, including giving Pierre Poilievre the opportunity to become Conservative Leader and to replace Justin Trudeau.

We owe so much to that Convoy.
