July 4th and 5th have been reserved for oral submissions in the Metro Taxi vs City of Ottawa trial. Observers expect that a decision from the judge on the liability issue will come in the late fall 2023 or winter of 2024. 

Following Judge Smith’s s decision on liability, there will the be evidence and argument over damages.
If the City of Ottawa is found liable, the judgement could be as much as $215,000,000, plus pre-and post-judgment interest, plus costs.

The City of Toronto’s staff report, outlining the vehicle-for-hire industry’s transition to net-zero emissions by 2030, is now expected at the Economic and Community Development Committee (ECDC) this fall. It was originally expected to be presented at the ECDC meeting

The questions and answers used as Toronto’s Vehicle for Hire (VFH) testing program have been collected and posted to several sites on YouTube.

“All questions a real test questions, collected from those who took the test recently,” says to opening slide of Simplifoo’s YouTube page. “Hope this will definitely help you.”

Another site, run by Maple Leaf Tamil, has more than 10,000 views.

Because the VFH test is administered to drivers using their own cell phones to take the test, drivers could keep YouTube open during the test to check for the correct answer.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Commissioner Vilda Vera Mayuga announced that the City of New York has set a first-of-its-kind minimum pay rate for app-based restaurant delivery workers. When fully implemented, the city’s more than 60,000 delivery workers — who currently earn $7.09/hour on average — will earn at least $19.96/hour. Restaurant delivery apps will also have flexibility in how they pay delivery workers the new minimum rate.
