Canada-US relations: will there be a change?

Donald Trump hates Justin Trudeau

By Lindsay Prescott

Over the years, Donald Trump has called Justin Trudeau “two faced,” “weak” and a “far-left lunatic.”

And we all know that Trump never forgets the people he dislikes.

In 2022 Trump called Justin Trudeau “a far-left lunatic” for requiring truck drivers crossing the Canada-US border to be vaccinated against COVID.

Within months, Trudeau had the same truckers arrested for peacefully protesting his government policy. Then, a respected Liberal judge ruled that Trudeau’s actions violated Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, ironically passed into law when his father, Pierre Trudeau, when he was Prime Minister of Canada.

Back in 2018, after a G7 meeting in Quebec, Trump bashed Trudeau calling him ‘very dishonest and weak’ when Trudeau edited the joint communique after Trump left the meeting.

Trump said: “based on Trudeau’s false statements at his news conference I have instructed our US Representatives not to endorse the Communique.”

There’s more.

In 2019 after a NATO summit in London, Trump called Trudeau “two-faced” when a video surfaced of Trudeau mocking him to world leaders, including French President Macron, British Prime Minister Johnson and Dutch Prime Minister Rutte.

Trump hates being mocked in public.

Showing that he still has contempt for Trudeau during the recent US election, Trump repeated the claim that Fidel Castro could be Trudeau’s real father. Trump first said this years ago, after Trudeau praised the former Communist President of Cuba.

Meanwhile, the only person Trump hates more than Trudeau is George Soros, who funded hundreds of anti-Trump NGOs in the US while giving huge donations to Kamala Harris.

But Trudeau showed that he is completely tone deaf this week, when he appointed Soros’ number one fan Chrystia Freeland to chair a new Cabinet Committee on Canada-US relations. This at a time when Trump has threatened to impose tariffs of 10-20 per cent on goods imported by the US, and 75 per cent of Canada’s trade is with the US.

Economists fear that this could result in thousands of Canadian jobs being lost, a $7 billion hit to Canadian GDP and a recession in Canada the likes of which we have not for almost 100 years.

The nightmare never ends.
