April 8 Vaccine updates
Despite daily pleas from the Taxi industry asking Ontario to list drivers as a priority group in Phase Two of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout, this did not occur as part of the April 7 announcement.
However, as more vaccine shipments are received and distributed and the age group to be vaccinated has been lowered to 50, a large number of professional drivers will now qualify simply by virtue of their age.
In areas deemed “hot spots,” the age for vaccination at a mobile clinic has been lowered to 18.
Beck Taxi immediately offered its facilities as a vaccination centre as Beck’s Operations Manager Kristine Hubbard tweeted:
“Our office is in a hot spot postal code. We have a big parking lot. We run a 24hr dispatch centre and could host taxi drivers. Let’s gooooo.”
