Truckers issue statement on 48 tragic hours
“Sheer number of collisions and lives affected is unimaginable”
The following statement was release by Truckers for Safer Highways on November 27, 2024
Truckers for Safer Highways extends our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those tragically lost in collisions across Northern Ontario over the past 48 hours. The sheer number of collisions, road closures, and lives affected is unimaginable.
Yet, despite these heartbreaking events, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation continues to insist that “Ontario has some of the safest highways in North America.”
We urgently call on Minister Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria to take immediate action to improve highway maintenance and ensure timely road clearing—particularly in Northern Ontario, where standards appear inconsistent.
Additionally, we demand a public inquiry into Serco, the company managing DriveTest centres. A recent CBC Marketplace investigation exposed serious concerns about the system, yet the Ontario government has remained silent.
How many more lives must be lost before real, meaningful legislation is enacted? It’s beyond time for change. Lives depend on it.
Please be safe out there.
