100 one-time grants for taxicab Accessible Taxis
Funds collected from drivers to be distributed to some
On July 14, 2026, Toronto increased the one-time grant under the Accessibility Fund Program for owners of newly converted accessible taxicab vehicles to $55,000. This increased grant is available for up to 100 accessible vehicle conversions.
According to the email obtained by Taxi News:
“If you have already applied for this grant for a vehicle registered in 2025 or 2026 before July 14, your application will automatically be considered for the increased grant amount. You do not need to reapply or take any further action at this time. Successful applicants will need to sign a Funding Agreement with the City before receiving the funds for the one-time grant. Once applications are approved, staff will send the agreement directly to recipients by email.
Since the launch of the Accessibility Fund Program in 2020, the City has provided more than $7.6 million in direct funding to taxicab owners and drivers who provide accessible service. In 2025, the program provided funding to 178 taxicab owners and 168 vehicle-for-hire drivers.”
The Accessibility Fund has collected at least $22 million since its inception.
The email notes, “City staff will continue to assess measures to increase the availability of on-demand wheelchair accessible service. This includes ongoing work to develop a centralized dispatch service.
