Toronto gig workers, Uber/Lyft drivers, part of global protests
No love lost on Valentine’s Day
Thousands of ride-hailing and delivery workers in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. went on strike on Valentine’s Day, calling for higher pay and other changes to their working conditions.
In Canada, gig workers and rideshare drivers including Uber and Lyft protested in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. In Toronto, workers met at Nathan Philips Square and then paraded to Uber’s head office on Bloor Street.
A report released February 12th by RideFAIR indicated the average Uber driver in Toronto earns $6.37 per hour after expenses.
