Police Chiefs launch Crime Prevention Week
Ontario-wide effort themed “Working Together to Protect Ontario”
The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and police services across the province are proud to partner with the Government of Ontario to launch the province’s annual Crime Prevention Week taking place November 2–8, 2025. This year’s theme, “Working Together to Protect Ontario,” highlights the importance of collaboration between police, government, community organizations, businesses, and residents in preventing crime and enhancing community safety.
To mark this important campaign, the OACP held a kickoff hosted by York Regional Police to launch the start of what will be a week of community outreach and engagement by Ontario police services.
Crime Prevention Week is part of promoting November as Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month as established by the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month Act, 2024 to raise awareness, promote partnerships, and encourage community action in preventing crime. It aligns with national efforts and involves collaborations between police, government, and community groups to create safer communities across the province.
Throughout the week, Ontario police services will focus on a number of key areas designed to building safer, more resilient communities:
- Crimes Against Persons – Promoting awareness and proactive strategies to prevent violence and harm against individuals, including vulnerable populations.
- Crimes Against Businesses – Supporting local businesses with tools and partnerships to reduce theft, fraud, and property-related crime.
- Reducing Victimization – Empowering individuals and communities through education, outreach, and support services that help prevent people from becoming victims of crime.
- Justice Reform and Bail Reform – Advocating for meaningful justice reforms that prioritize community safety, including responsible bail practices that protect victims and deter repeat offenders.
Crime Prevention Week is supported by the Ministry of the Solicitor General and police services across Ontario. Local police will host events, educational campaigns, and community initiatives designed to raise awareness about how residents can take an active role in preventing crime.
