Chinese interference in 2019 and 2021 elections: Democracy Watch calls on Commissioner of Canada Elections to investigate

“Enough evidence of China-government sponsored election interference in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections has been reported to make it clear that the Commissioner needs to do a full investigation and issue a public report of what the investigation reveals concerning violations of Canada’s election law,” said Duff Conacher, Co-founder of Democracy Watch. “A public inquiry would delay the enactment of clearly needed changes, and will only be needed if the Commissioner, the House Committee and the national security committee of parliamentarians fail to investigate China’s election interference fully, fail to reveal key information about what happened, or fail to issue public, comprehensive reports recommending all the key changes needed to stop future interference.”

Below is a transcript of the exchange between a reporter and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a February 27th press conference. Earlier in the conference, media asked Trudeau to comment on Global News’ report that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had bussed senior citizens in from outside the riding of Don Valley East to vote to for Liberal Han Dong. The report said that international Chinese students were also bussed in from outside the riding and told they would be returned to China unless they voted for Dong.

Leap forward: TTSAO sets next conference date for February 29th, 2024

The Truck Training Safety Association of Ontario (TTSAO) has selected February 29th, 2024 as the date for its next conference, again at the Lion’s Gate in Brampton.

“We are going to take a ‘quantum leap’ into the future,” says President Philip Fletcher of the Leap Year date. The 2024 conference will once again be held at Lion’s Gate Golf and Country Club.  

The date was set at TTSAO’s Annual General Meeting which was held February 21st. Fletcher presented the Association’s financial report on behalf of Treasurer George Cierpich who was unfortunately ill. TTSAO’s fiscal position is excellent, says Chair Ken Adams: “We will be around for another 30 years,” he says.
