Myers demands answers at Accessible Committee
Toronto has only 84 on-demand Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

Municipal Licensing and Standards (MLS) staff evading questions about the actual number of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) at Toronto’s June 15th Accessible Committee meeting were pressed for answers by frustrated Chair, Councillor Jamaal Myers.
“Why don’t you know that number? We have asked for this information before,” Myers snapped at one point.
“There’s only five or six taxi companies in the city, you could call them to ask. You could just you request the information, I’m sure they give it to you in terms of just figuring out one just how many are available in total and whether or not we know how many are available on any given day,” he suggested to Director of Policy Joanna Hazeldon.
“There is nothing stopping you, you don’t need a by-law change, you could do that tomorrow,” Myers pointed out.
“We have had several meetings about this, multiple meetings, which is why I am perplexed. Why am I not getting the answer from MLS?”

Beck Taxi Operations Manager Kristine Hubbard is considering filing a complaint with Ontario’s Ombudsman over the fact that staff appear to be blatantly lying to Councillors.
“They have the WAV numbers,” Hubbard told Taxi News. “They published them on their website. All of the numbers in my presentation, I took from the web site staff published. How can they tell Councillors they do not know the numbers?”
