“It’s the ‘Wow Factor,’” says Bob Dick of Niagara Private Wine Excursions (NPWE). “We are in the business of making people feel really special, and they love it!”

Dick, who manages NPWE as a division of Coventry Transportation, got the brand-new, helicopter-based component of Coventry’s limousine service launched this summer. It has been a busy time, and customers are giving it rave reviews.

No doubt: after a year of being locked down with COVID-19, visitors to Niagara wine country are thrilled with the adventure.

“Almost all of our clientele has been local so far – Niagara residents love the new twist on a favourite trip. Now, we can honestly tell people, ‘When in Niagara, do as the locals do.’”

A full-service package, Dick explains, can include the following:

“We can pick you up by limo at your home, anywhere in Southern Ontario, really. We have cars everywhere.

“The limo drives you to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Airport, where you meet the helicopter.

“You go by helicopter to Niagara Falls, where you fly right out over the Falls. The photo opportunities are incredible! Our clients LOVE it.

“Then, you fly by helicopter to the Bella Terra Winery, where you are met with champagne by the host, who is also a Sommelier.

“You can spend the day in the vineyard, tasting wines and eating charcuterie – or walking around the estate, which is like a documentary geology lesson. There are plaques and posts all around the estate explaining the geology and topography of the winery, all the way back to the Ice Age and how Niagara formed. People are fascinated!

“You also have the option to travel by limo to more wineries, although most people opt to spend the day at Bella Terra,” Dick notes.

“Finally, when the day is done, you leave by limo back to where you want to go: the airport, or home.”

Dick says the “Wow Factor” of landing at the winery in a helicopter can’t be topped:

“Everyone is watching while the ‘copter lands and you disembark,” he laughs. “Talk about making an exciting entrance! People love the drama of it, it is like nothing else.”

Niagara Private Wine Excursions does all the bookings and every element can be personalized, Dick explains.

“We work with Great Lakes Helicopters, which has a very new, compact helicopter that makes this event safe, and affordable,” he says. “When it comes to the ground vehicle, we can provide anything from a Rolls Royce to a Lincoln Continental – whatever the client wants. Everything is personalized for them. The only call they have to make is to us, to our reservations line which is staffed with a live human being, 24 hours/7 days per week.” (905 468 7727)

Dick has more than 70 drivers standing by, and says surviving COVID-19 and the border closure has been a challenge but his team is looking to the future: this includes picking up clients for Niagara Private Wine Excursions at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto, and the Buffalo Airport in New York – as soon as the border opens.

“We muscled through totally, fought all the evils that try to ruin you, and beat them. We are looking forward to the future.”
