(Updated 6:30pm January 22, 2022) The victim in a shooting in Oshawa on January 21, 2022 has been identified as 57 year old Mike Ryan, a driver for Blue Line Taxi. A suspect is in custody.

Marc Andre Way, President and CEO of Coventry Connections which runs Blue Line Taxi in Durham, spoke with Taxi News on January 21st.

“He was a great guy, one of the best,” Way said sadly. “Everyone in the office is just shocked and saddened. He has been with us a long time, many years, and everyone had the greatest respect for him. This is terrible.”

Way told Taxi News that he and his staff are co-operating with police in every way possible. Earlier in the evening, he said, Coventry had dispatched one of their technical staff to the scene to assist police in recovering all of the images that were captured by the in-car camera.

“We will do whatever we can to assist,” said Way. ‘This is a terrible event, it should not have happened.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up in Ryan’s honour.
