8 inspectors watch Ontario’s 555 career colleges

Ontario has eight inspectors to keep tabs on 555 career colleges across the province.

Industry professionals who are watching the ongoing Ontario/Quebec “fake trucking school” court case were appalled to learn how few inspectors the province has keeping tabs on an exploding number of career colleges. The Ministry of Colleges and Universities, which regulates all career colleges including Trucking, told Road Warrior News in an email that it currently has no plans to hire additional inspectors.

July 4th and 5th Ottawa court proceedings postponed

The July 4th and 5th court proceedings in Metro Taxi vs City of Ottawa have been postponed and will not take place this week as originally scheduled and announced.

“I am still involved with my civil jury trial,” Justice Michael Smith informed legal counsel for both sides in an email on Friday, June 30th.  

“As such, the oral submissions that were scheduled to proceed on Tuesday and Wednesday (July 4 and 5) will have to be rescheduled. I will ask the trial coordination office to reach out to you and reschedule the hearing. Thank you. M. Smith J.”

Oral closing arguments July 4 and 5 in Ottawa Taxi court case, Zoom link here

July 4th and 5th have been reserved for oral submissions in the Metro Taxi vs City of Ottawa trial. Observers expect that a decision from the judge on the liability issue will come in the late fall 2023 or winter of 2024. 

Following Judge Smith’s s decision on liability, there will the be evidence and argument over damages.
If the City of Ottawa is found liable, the judgement could be as much as $215,000,000, plus pre-and post-judgment interest, plus costs.

Toronto’s VFH test questions, answers posted to YouTube

The questions and answers used as Toronto’s Vehicle for Hire (VFH) testing program have been collected and posted to several sites on YouTube.

“All questions a real test questions, collected from those who took the test recently,” says to opening slide of Simplifoo’s YouTube page. “Hope this will definitely help you.”

Another site, run by Maple Leaf Tamil, has more than 10,000 views.

Because the VFH test is administered to drivers using their own cell phones to take the test, drivers could keep YouTube open during the test to check for the correct answer.
