Are Truckers now the only Opposition to Trudeau’s government?

One of Canada’s most experienced political activists believes that protesting Truckers have been drawn into doing the job of the Official Opposition in Canada, because the elected politicians who hold those jobs have failed to oppose Justin Trudeau.
“I won’t single out one Opposition leader. But I will say that all of the Opposition leaders – the Bloc, Jagmeet Singh, Erin O’Toole, none of them have stood up for the people of Canada,” says Georganne Burke, Senior Vice-President at Pathway Group. Burke began her Canadian career working for the NDP and eventually moved right to the Conservative party where she has managed numerous campaigns in recent years.
“They’ve all been compliant with all of the COVID mandates from the very beginning.”
Burke points out that not a one of the Opposition politicians in Ottawa have missed a single paycheque since COVID began, which puts them in a very different position when compared to the millions of Canadians who have lost jobs and businesses during the same period.
“The Truckers’ convoy is not something that just happened in a week. People have been getting more and more frustrated with each subsequent lockdown. They can’t handle the lack of leadership that we’re seeing by our political leaders and our healthcare leaders. The Truckers’ border vaccine mandate was the last straw.”
The thousands of transports trucks and hundreds of thousands of Canadians who descended up Ottawa to protest on January 29th would not have been required if the Opposition leaders had been doing the job they were elected to do.
“These guys are at the heads of parties which have an obligation to look at what the government is doing to call it to account,” Burke says. While individual Members of Parliament have spoken up and risked their careers to oppose Trudeau, the Opposition leaders have been missing in action.
“The policies the Liberals have introduced have harmed the Canadian population, the businesses, the children, that the seniors who suffered in in homes. Nobody has stood up for them – not provincially either, by the way – federally, none of the Official Opposition leaders who get paid to oppose Justin Trudeau are doing their jobs. I hold all of them accountable, every single one of them. Every single one of these politicians have to account for what they did. History will not be kind to them.”
Jagmeet Singh’s NDP party has publicly and consistently supported the Liberal Party of Canada in key Parliamentary votes since 2015. At time of posting, the Conservative Party of Canada had not responded to Road Warrior News’ request for comment.
On its GoFundMe page, Freedom Convoy 2022 organizers write: “The time for political over-reach is over. Our current government is implementing rules and mandates that are destroying the foundation of our businesses, industries and livelihoods.
“Canadians have been integral to the fabric of humanity in many ways that have shaped the planet. We are a peaceful country that has helped protect nations across the globe from tyrannical governments who oppressed their people, and now it seems it is happening here.
“We are taking our fight to the doorsteps of our Federal Government and demanding that they cease all mandates against its people. Small businesses are being destroyed, homes are being destroyed, and people are being mistreated and denied fundamental necessities to survive. It’s our duty as Canadians to put an end to this mandate. It is imperative that this happens because if we don’t our country will no longer be the country we have come to love. We are doing this for our future generations, and to regain our lives.”
