See and be seen: learn how to stay safe around large vehicles
Ottawa October 1 safety event for drivers
When you’re walking or cycling near a large vehicle, can the driver see you? Come experience an interactive blind spot demonstration and learn how to stay safe and visible on the road. Discover where vehicle blind spots are located, see the road from the driver’s seat and find out where to position yourself to stay safe.
After the blind spot demonstration, meet staff from Safer Roads Ottawa and Ottawa Fire Services and explore a fire truck as they launch the annual Be Safe, Be Seen awareness campaign. Running throughout October, this campaign emphasizes the importance of pedestrians and cyclists being visible during dawn, dusk and other low-light conditions.
Pick up free safety gear, including reflective bands and bicycle lights, and learn simple ways to make yourself more visible on the road.

This event is part of the City of Ottawa’s Road Safety Action Plan. The City continues to make improvements to the safety of our roads and pathways with an emphasis on protecting vulnerable users – pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. The City’s Road Safety Action Plan guides these engineering, education and enforcement initiatives. But even the safest transportation network requires that everyone follows the rules of the road for their mode of transportation.
