June 12-25 set for Toronto Vehicle for Hire consultations

A two-week window has been set for stakeholder consultations on Toronto’s Vehicle for Hire (VFH) industry, from June 12 – 25th. No meeting times or topics are listed on the site currently; interested parties need to subscribe for updates to receive that information.

According to Toronto’s website, the goal of the consultations is to develop “a framework that balances customer service, economic impacts on drivers, impacts on public transit and congestion, and equity and accessibility.”

The consultations are being held in advance of the November, 2024 staff report to Council which is being researched now. After Mayor Chow and Toronto Council voted to cap the number of rideshare vehicles in October 2023, Uber filed a lawsuit accusing Toronto of providing insufficient notice of its intention to limit the number of vehicles for hire. Toronto then rescinded the cap and provided staff with additional direction on writing the November report.
