77 per cent of Accessible Taxis need to be replaced in 2024/25

More than three-quarters of the 577 Accessible Taxis currently working to serve Toronto will need to be replaced in 2024 and 2025.

Figures published by the City of Toronto on January 6th indicate that only 577 of the licensed Accessible Taxis are on the road working; 139 of the issued plates are not on vehicles, presumably because those plate owners have found they cannot generate sufficient revenues.

Of the 577 currently working, 57 will require replacement in 2024 and 387 in 2025, for a total of 444 Accessible vehicles to be replaced in the two year period.

On January 8th, Taxi News reported that 65 per cent of Toronto’s standard Taxis will need to be replaced in 2024 alone. This represents 1,787 new vehicles, a feat which automobile industry representatives says will be “absolutely impossible” to supply in one year.
