Know Human Trafficking board announced
Working to end modern-day slavery
On February 22nd, National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, Know Human Trafficking officially announced its founding board members.
“Their dedication and passion have been the driving force behind our mission to shine a light on human trafficking, educate the public, and empower us to support survivors,” says President Shelley Walker in a media release.
The Board is comprised of:
- Ken Adams, Chairperson
- Jeff McKay, Vice-Chairperson
- Shelley Walker, President
- Fiona Stone, Secretary
- Kirsty Soares, Treasurer
- Shea Merriman, Director
- Isabelle Fournier, Director
“Together, we are committed to ending modern-day slavery and supporting survivors in every way possible. We believe that awareness and education are our most powerful tools, and with the support of our community, we can end human trafficking,” Walker says.
According to the Government of Canada, human traffickingย involves “the recruitment, transportation, harbouring and/ or exercising control, direction or influence over the movements of a person in order to exploit that person, typically through sexual exploitation or forced labour.”
