Criminally fake rideshare, Taxi drivers CTA Zoom topic Nov. 28
Updates on activities to alert potential victims
Today’s CTA Zoom webinar will focus first on recent activities involving criminals posing as rideshare or Taxi drivers in order to commit crimes.
The monthly Zoom meeting of Taxi industry members generally presents marketing or business-oriented information developed to help Taxi companies across Canada develop their businesses and boost revenues.
However, the November 28th call will first update attendees with the most recent information about how the industry is dealing with fraud and crime which use both Uber and Taxi signage or branding identification.
The Canadian Taxi Association (CTA) has been in conversation with several different police organizations since early 2024. These conversations were initiated by CTA originally around the “fake Taxi scams” police began warning about several months ago.
However, the predictable dangers associated with having criminals falsely identifying themselves as Vehicle for Hire drivers have become much more evident in recent months. In November, three young women in Peel and York Regions accepted rides from a man claiming to be a rideshare driver, who then drove them to a secluded area and sexually assaulted them, as reported by Peel police at a press conference on November 27th.
The CTA Zoom webinar is scheduled for 2:30pm EST November 28th. Click on the button below to register for the videoconference.
